It was as though his body moved of its own accord. He didn’t remember choosing to upend the washing basket and dive across the room, didn’t plan to drive his fist straight into Claudio’s smarmy face. It just… happened.
His fist bloomed across Claudio’s face with a worrisome snap, the impact reverberating through Ben’s arm. He didn’t expect the surface of Claudio’s head to feel so hard. Truth be told, he hadn’t expected to land a hit at all. He’d just done it.
At the end of BROTHERS, Ben loses his temper. In the aftermath, he runs to Beatrice for comfort and first aid.

Benedick had gone through a lot when he moved to Auckland. But one of the silver linings was the beautiful, perfect climbing tree in the yard outside his house. And it was hard to be sad when climbing a tree.
So now, when his house had become Beatrice's refuge after Hero's birthday disaster, and Ben couldn't stand the sadness on Beatrice's face a moment longer, he knew what he had to do.

Most of the people involved in the disaster of last school year graduated along with Peter, but the ones that are still around are also the ones he would most like to avoid. He and Claudio wordlessly established a mutual avoidance strategy back in november, when all the picnics and reconciliation dinners and apology parties forced them into proximity with each other, so that makes Hero the bigger concern. Her niceness makes her a wildcard, but he tries to convince himself that she’ll probably want to ignore him. He definitely wants to avoid her. Really, it’s the only reasonable thing to do. It’ll be fine.
John and Hero return to Messina for their final year and find themselves pulled back into each other's orbit.
