Summary
Two years after Yoseph's defeat and the subsequent saving of the Ark, Brenda's idea of reclaiming Earth from its chimeric foes is finally put into motion. It seems the world has finally started healing: without threats like Jena or the RAVENS or Yoseph, progress can be made from Sector V all the way to Zone 36. Information about Chimeras has been publicised. Neuron HQ has grown to the point of having multiple offices in numerous police headquarters. Scientific breakthroughs have lead to better, more effective treatments for Redshift.
The world truly seems to be turning over a new leaf.
But even so, not all is perfect on the Ark. With a rising threat of stronger, smarter, cleverer Chimeras appearing everywhere and questionable decisions from the UNION, it seems the world once again finds itself in need of help from Misaki and Akira. With the burden of the world's fate on their shoulders, they must find a way to set things right anew-a task easier said than done when you're still recovering from the last near apocalypse and keeping secrets from one another.
That being said, the clock is ticking, and the end of the world waits for no one.

How do you come home, after?
(I never liked how they skipped the three days after Max died, so here's some angst about what I think would've happened if the twins had actually been able to go home and grieve together after losing their dad. Tears ahead.)

Summary
He... He wants to know who she is. Who she really is, not just information on a file. But he can't just ask, not without sounding completely insensitive, especially when he's all too aware that it would take barely a second for her and her vicious legions to demolish his sorry little drone. And, considering he kinda, y'know, needs that, he wraps up every single inquisitive thought and packs them away into a far corner of his mind. If Azure wants to open up, she will. But Hal isn't going to push her. Despite how little time they've spent together, it hasn't taken long for him to build a decent amount of respect for her. And, provided the feeling is mutual, he can't risk losing what small shred of dignity he still has in her eyes.
So he waits. But, again, it might not even matter. Who's to say the two of them will keep running into each other, anyway?

Summary
Azure sits down on the nearby couch, and takes note of Hal's careful, shaking hands as he approaches her. Was he really that freaked out? Or is it because of what he's now been tasked to do? Perhaps it's a combination of both.
But wait, this is... The first time he's getting to touch her, she realizes. Outside of the occasional brush of hands, that is. It's only been a couple months since he gave her special permission to see and hang out with him in person, so this is... This must feel like a big step for him. Azure wonders how that must feel.
"It's alright, Hal," she says before she can think about it. "I don't mind."

Summary
It'll make you stronger, he had said. But, really, Azure almost wants to laugh. Because ever since she was forced to turn her back on the one person who had given her a second chance at life, who worked so hard to curate a world where she and Akira could live in peace only to succumb to its greatest threat, Azure has felt nothing but weak.

Summary
“… I loved her enough to let her go,” he murmurs. “And now, I get to live with the fact that she’s been turned into this – this fake. A replacement for someone the old corny romance novels said was irreplaceable.”
He laughs again, before he starts to sob.
“You don’t know how it feels,” he cries into his hands. “You don’t know how it feels to have to look at her in the eye and know this is something she never wanted. All she wanted was to be strong enough to stand by me, and protect people like our Dad – and all of it was just some fucking lie.”

Summary
“Well, I don’t care what he told you. I’m going to help Brenda and neither of you can stop me. If I have to go alone, that’s fine. But Brenda was always there for me, and now I want to be there for her.”
She’s expecting some form of argument. Some kind of fork in the road that’ll send Olive off on her own while Hal and Azure try and fail to convince her otherwise. Something like, “it’s too dangerous, we can’t afford to lose you too”, because that’s a phrase she’s heard and had to say countless times during missions. Olive knows exactly how this scenario will play out. Because she’s been on the safe side of the bridge, and now she’s on the far side. The side that bodes danger.
It never comes. Whatever form of discouragement she’s anticipating never leaves Azure’s lips, nor does it come crackling in from Hal through Azure’s radio. There’s just silence. Then, Azure smiles, that small, sweet smile that she gives to helpless civilians, and she rests a gentle hand on Olive’s shoulder.
“I’m with you,” she promises. “Don’t worry.”
