‘This has to be Galadriel’s most ridiculous idea yet!’ Elrond's voice was still raised. ‘You, in a party, with her?! Camnir, you have no business hunting orcs!’ He rested his elbows on the table, putting his hands to his forehead.
‘Elrond, can you hear me?’ a voice whispered urgently above him. He forced his eyes open—realizing for the first time that they had been closed—and saw Galadriel leaning over him. Her face was streaked with dirt and soot, her hair wet with sweat.
Behind her, the pale grey morning sky swirled hazily into view. He was lying down. He tried to sit up, but the pain in his shoulder flared so intensely that he fell back with a gasp, the world around him flashing to white.
