Summary
Jay made her way down to the quarters she shared with Chip and Gill. She peeked her head around the corner of the stairs and looked over to Chip’s bed. As expected, there he was. However, Jay didn’t expect to see him curled up in blankets, shivering.
“Chip?” He looked up at her. “Are you okay? Ollie wanted me to check on you.”
“Oh, uh, just a little cold,” Chip lied. Jay approached his bed and sat on the edge of it. She put the back of her hand on his forehead. It was almost as hot as an oven.
“Okay, Chip you’re warm, even for you,” Jay said. He shivered a bit as Jay pulled her hand away from his forehead. “Why didn’t you mention that you weren’t feeling well?”

His throat feels tight as he turns to face the fountain, the heaping mound of marble and ichor where he last saw Gillion Tidestrider, his co-captain, his best friend. He blinks at the rubble, watching the last of the dust settle, revealing the wreckage.
His heart stops.

Jay takes advantage of the opportunity to check on Gillion, who should be up and retrieving his sword by now.
Her heart stutters in her throat.
Gillion hasn’t moved.
He’s lying flat on his back in the grass and leaves, limbs twisted awkwardly around him. Blood pools around the shoulder the direwolf bit. His tail doesn’t so much as twitch, his fins laying limp and crumpled on the ground.

Gillion's life in the undersea had taught him many things - things that, he was learning, did not tend to apply to the surface.
OR: 5+1, five times Gillion's past affected his present and one time he was free of it
OR OR: man I hate the Undersea elders. Sure would be a shame if I used their canonical child abuse to write a fic that might just be character study on Gillion based off of how he reacts to things in canon through the light of their treatment of him. Sure would be a shame. Wouldn't it.
