Summary
Gillion sighs heavily and readies himself, reaching for a small knife at his waist. If only he had time to prepare something grander. He slices away a small part of the net tied around his hips, and approaches her. Jay gives him a confused look as he drops to one knee, holding the net up.
"Jay," he starts, uncharacteristically nervous, "I know we haven't known each other long, but with this piece of me, I offer myself to you, that we may be joined together in an act of love, if you choose to accept." He stresses the final few words, just in case the room needs them. Lunadeyis please understand, he prays silently, squeezing his eyes shut for a moment. This isn't what She envisioned marriage to ever look like, he's sure, but he can't envision a better way for them to get out of this room. Not without making a true commitment.
Jay's eyes are wide with confusion, but she smiles slightly as she takes the piece of netting from his hand, fingers brushing against his. "I do," she says, voice steady despite her clear uncertainty.
"Then by Lunadeyis, it shall be."
Or, after a failed kiss with Chip, Gillion marries Jay.

Summary
Okay. So. Here's the thing. Jay hasn't slept in about 70 hours, give or take, every single place to eat on and around campus is closed, and she just almost dropped a tray full of fresh cookies.
And, well, she's always been an easy crier—thankfully none of her friends care—so she should really expect the tears that well up and spill over. So here she is. Jay Ferin, crying in the kitchen of her dorm, holding a tray of chocolate chip cookies.
"Oh! Um, are you okay? Did you burn yourself?"
Jay looks up, a fresh tear rolling down her cheek, and locks eyes with the prettiest woman she's ever seen. Shit! She's tall and slender, midnight black hair spilling over her shoulders. "I-I'm okay." She gives the other woman a shaky smile. "Just…a long couple of days."
She nods sympathetically. "I see. Do you need a hand with that?"
Jay looks down at the cookies she's still holding. "I think I have it. Do you want one?"

Summary
If there was one thing that Chip was certain of about Jay, it was that she was a crier. Jay cried at everything. She cried when she was sad, when she was happy, when she was angry. She’d burst into tears in the middle of a crowded street if a stall runner said something even mildly sad. But he’d never seen Jay as truly and utterly devastated as she looked right now. Disheveled might’ve been a better word.

Summary
Gill yells, trying to punch Jayson. He stops the blow easily, catching Gillion’s fist in his hand. “Jay. This is unacceptable behavior.” He shoves Gill into the wall. “Your…companions…should know better than to attack your father.
“I,” she starts, licking her lips, “I’m sorry. Guys, please, stop.” Both of them look at her, Chip halfway to crossing to where Gill is. “I’ll handle it.”
Jayson’s eyebrow ticks up. She crosses the room, every step deliberate. Every step takes her closer to revealing the secret she’s kept close to her chest since the day she met Chip in her mother’s tavern.
Jayson’s eyes stay fixed on her as she approaches. “Please. Just…let them go. They don’t know anything.” She stops in front of him, wings twitching. “I swear.”

Summary
Her world came crashing down, now she was no longer in the air, gravity threw itself at full force on her shoulders, shattering her skin and bones into the hard floor below her. What was left of her skin felt tight and stretched uncomfortably over her aching muscles. As she fell, and fell, it felt as if her lungs had been taken out and no longer existed in her. Jay’s left ear rang while her right ear was solely focused on the graveled voice coming from the sharp shell she tightly held onto.

Summary
Drey Ferin left before Jay was even old enough to understand the true weight of the situation. She was a few years from graduating elementary school, bright-faced and still excited about the world, with no responsibilities on her shoulders yet.
This wasn’t necessarily unusual at the time. Drey would often go out on long sea voyages for months or even a year at a time. He would leave, come back, and then he was there again. He brought Jay and Ava trinkets he had picked up on his travels.

Summary
“Discipline them, Jay.”
The words are sharp, they’re a bucket of cold water tipped over her head, they’re the burn of ice on skin, they are an order, and the flowers are choking her.
She cannot disobey. The brittle bones of her willpower are crushed between dragon-sharp teeth.
Gillion’s armor is on the floor, abandoned in a heap. From this up close the thunk is anticlimactically quiet, as the arrow sinks deep into his chest and her lungs bloom. She cannot disobey.
“Your choices are your own, Jay. Sincerely, I hope it was worth it.”
Jay cannot disobey and she cannot breathe.

Summary
As Jay saw the sign plastered in front of bright orange barriers balanced on the sidewalk in front of her normal bus stop, she felt her heart sink into her stomach. The normal overhang she stood under to wait for the bus was partitioned off and the label that signified the bus stop had been removed.
The sign read, in blocky official text: “Closed due to complications with construction, bus stop will be temporarily moved to 5th Ave North and Byers Street”
--
Jay calls Chip while she walks to a "temporary bus stop." A strange nightmare lingers in Jay's mind—And the shadows bring it to life with every step in the cold Mayfair night. Hopefully she doesn't have to wait too long for the bus...
