She started to say something else, but Till couldn't hear it. The world had gone dark around him, narrowing until the only thing he could see was her eyes. He had memorized their color at this point.
And then just like that…
His eyes closed.
Blink gone.

“Hey airhead,” Luka peered through long golden lashes at Mizi, “put pressure on his neck so he doesn’t die on us. We are leaving.”
The ceiling exploded, sending golden sparks into the crowd. A black ship with glowing violet lights descended.
Luka smirked as he pulled out his earpiece, its green light faded like a meteor. A sharp ear-piercing screech overshadowed the screams from the pandemonium. The guards that previously aimed their guns at Luka and Till slowly gathered in front of them as a shield pointing their weapons at the audience instead. Their lights glow violet.
Luka’s fantasy of a flawless exit was shattered by a slap across the face.
“It was you,” Hyuna gritted her teeth, “you planned this all along. You are Minerva.”
Minerva.
The secret leader of the rebellion.
Heperu’s biggest mistake was Luka. He made him perfect. Too perfect. Too smart.

When it pricks over his skin and he reacts, Till murmurs a harsh apology. His palm cuts the exclamation mark-shaped puddle at the top of Ivan’s spine, spreads it across the cords of his shoulders and up his neck, thumbs pressing hesitantly with a force that can’t be effective.

“He’s here too right?” A beat, as though afraid to mention the name, “Ivan.”
“Ivan, he. . .” Sua draws it out, tapping her finger on a stain on her dress as though repeatedly playing a key on a broken keyboard.
Till grows more quiet with each word Sua says. He wasn't used to hearing this many words from her anyway.
“Is he hiding here somewhere like he always did?” There was a tremor in Till’s voice as he tried to laugh it off, unsure why he could hear the melody of a xylophone grow louder.
Till finds Sua right after the final round. They talk about the past, the people they loved, and what could possibly be awaiting them behind the door.

He takes in a choked breath as he perceives Ivan’s familiar, soothing scent, as he listens to the steady cadence of his breaths— as he feels the way their heartbeats melt into each other’s, as if they have always been searching for each other— as if the sea was always meant to bring them together.
Though they still felt lost, though the cloudburst in their hearts had yet to clear, Till felt as if he already reached the shore.
Alternatively, Ivan and Till reunite in a place that they have never stepped foot on, but could have loved, perhaps, if they were born in a gentler world.
