Summary
This story is a mashup that pits The Fall’s D.S. Stella Gibson against a beautiful and dangerous opponent, Matron Mary Taylor from Shroud for a Nightingale, which requires Stella to time travel back to 1975. The story more or less follows the plot of Shroud for a Nightingale (the original novel and the 1984 tv mini-series, not the recent 2021 episode of Dalgliesh) with Stella taking the place of Commander Dalgliesh, and her second-in-command, Dani Ferrington, taking the place of D.S. Masterson. Also in this story, some of the more intimate details of the characters’ relationships, which P.D. James chose to draw a veil over, are revealed to the reader.
