After all, "on leave," sounds much better than "suspended and facing discharge."

Her mind flashed to her mom and dad screaming her name, the last thing they’d ever say. Her stomach flipped, and she lurched to the side of the bed to vomit into the bedpan. The nurse patted her back soothingly; she later learned her name was Rodriguez.
She couldn’t bear to say her first name, not so soon after her parents had screamed it with their dying breath.
“Shepard,” she mumbled, wiping her mouth. “My name is Shepard.”

Basically a lot of canon expansion with my spin on it! :D This one focuses on the slavers' attack on Mindoir and how Shepard survived, so it's quite violent and features a lot of deathSeries

The only thing that Shepard has to worry about is that Anderson thinks it's a bad idea for her to be N7. But, well, that's kind of a big thing. It's spoiling her shore leave, just a little. But her worry and annoyance at her commanding officer take a back seat when Elysium is struck by batarian raiders, and Shepard's life turns upside down in more ways than she can ever imagine.
Now captured by the raiders, she needs to do everything she can to fight back, but there's only so much fight in a person, only so many sacrifices that one person can make before they break for good.
