He’d known it was a bad idea to travel so close to his rut, but it should have been fine. It would have been fine, if a winter storm hadn’t hit and trapped him and Volkov in a hotel room together.

Hey! I'm new to AO3—though not new to writing fanfiction. This is my first time posting here, and I’m both excited and nervous to share my work.
So... 10 Cloverfield Lane. Like many of you, I was devastated when Emmett died 😭. I kept thinking: What if things went differently? What if he survived—and what if he and Michelle actually had a chance?
That idea stuck with me. So I wrote an alternate ending. One where Emmett lives. Where he gets the girl. Where they find a little hope in the middle of the horror. Because let’s be honest, their chemistry was undeniable, right? If you agree—or even if you’re just curious—I hope you’ll join me on this ride. 💛Small note: I wrote this with the help of ChatGPT. The story, dialogue, and plot are all mine—GPT just helped polish the grammar and flow.
Also, after writing, I learned someone else explored a similar “Emmett lives” idea back in 2016. Great minds! A little overlap may exist, but this version has its own voice, tone, and ending.
Thanks so much for reading. I hope you enjoy this alternate take on Michelle and Emmett’s story. 💛 -

The longer they’re in space, the shiftier Schmidt acts. Volkov’s suspicions rise steadily, but there isn’t an obvious cause he can see. The only solution is to pin Schmidt down and pry it out of him.

Summary
Schmidt’s a completely magic-free human in a world full of magic. The world ignores him and his small, banal life, the only highlight arguing with his irritable coworker he has an oversized, hopeless crush on. It turns out he doesn’t have to be magical to get kidnapped and sacrificed to a demon.

Centuries ago, secondary gender markers might have actually meant something, but these days they’re nothing but a checkbox on medical forms. The only people who care or even think about them are highly specialized doctors and historians. They’re completely irrelevant, a holdover like many other evolutionary oddities, often likened to the appendix for how little they matter.
They’re certainly not relevant in the face of a project like the Shepard.

Summary
An unexpected surge of protectiveness lands Schmidt in the position of posing as Volkov’s long term, serious boyfriend at a family event. The biggest problem isn’t the event, or even the horrible family he’s there to help shield Volkov from, but the sudden realization that maybe this isn’t that fake for him after all.

Summary
Schmidt doesn’t really think anything of the fact that Volkov’s the only omega on board the Cloverfield Station - it hardly affects their work after all. He can’t think about anything else when it turns out the station isn’t stocked with enough heat suppressants and suddenly Volkov’s scent is everywhere.

Summary
Volkov’s long since chalked all of his interest in Schmidt up as one-sided and he’s fine with that. It doesn’t need to be more than them arguing with each other, he can enjoy that and not expect more. That holds for years, until Schmidt finds him unwinding at the bar one evening. Their usual near-hostilities turn friendly, then flirtatious, and then Volkov’s considering breaking his personal rule of no hookups. There’s no way Schmidt would approach him of all people for a one night stand.
