Summary
Wild wondered, for a second, if he knocked the person unconscious in the scuffle.
But…no. Their—her—frighteningly gray eyes were still open, and just as wide as before. They darted around, searching Wild’s face for something.
Wild’s gaze happened to drop down to her neck; to the discolored mark of skin gracing her throat. His heart clenched, then stopped.
Wild met her eyes again, and the shock had left her stare, now replaced with relief and bright, unbridled joy.
She breathed (they both were breathing quite hard now) in a sound between a sigh and a disbelieving laugh. The beginnings of her smile shifted her sun-damaged freckles and fresh scars very slightly.
“Link…” She started, but trailed off like her breath was stolen from her.Or
