Summary
Personally I like to imagine that Yusuf, trading in the area and not yet a professional soldier or life-long warrior (in the way Nicolò would likely have been if he was a knight), had a series of progressively more aggravating encounters with the crusader armies as they made their way through Anatolia that eventually led to him deciding to stay in Jerusalem when the city was besieged because fuck those Franks, what do they think they’re doing? And then…well, fuck THAT Frank in PARTICULAR who refuses to stay dead.

Summary
Nicolò was close to his own age, which meant he was well past his thirtieth year, and very handsome, anyone reasonable would have to admit that, and clean enough in his habits – well, these days, anyway – and pleasant in his manner, when he was not trying to kill anybody. Actually, Yusuf had noted that he could be quite polite even in battle. The point was, there was absolutely no reason he should be a virgin.
