You remove your cloak and fold it, placing it on the nightstand before running your hands over the blanket. You can feel a pale facsimile of its softness through the bandages.
(You want to take them off. You’re tired, tired in a way that goes deeper than your bones. Tired in a way that cuts through to the tender parts you’ve tried desperately to hide from the world and yourself. And the blanket looks so soft. And you’ve never been good at resisting soft things, no matter how much the world tries to teach you otherwise.)
