Summary
Max is generally a little stubborn, but every now again he’s capable of admitting when he’s made a mistake.
Like now.
He’s in his kitchen, stirring a cup of bland tea that he won’t drink, when he realises how pointless this all is. It’s been two days since Spain but he misses George like a lost limb and he suspects George may miss him too.
There’s no need to deprive themselves of something so good just because they’ve indulged in the softer side of things a little too much. After all, everything is good in moderation.
Or: Max and George start hooking up in Qatar. When the hate-sex turns to something softer Max isn’t quite sure how to feel about it.

“Max seduced you?” Alex laughs, incredulously. “Somehow I struggle to believe that.”
“Well he did. And now I think I’m kind of falling for him and I hate it. Help me.” George groans, lying back and sprawling out his limbs. It’s a little childish but he’s allowed to be dramatic about this- he’s falling in love with his rival.
“Okay, okay,” Alex soothes, probably sensing that George is about to go from playful theatrics to actual hysteria. “Well, do you think he might be developing feelings for you too?”
He thinks of staring at the outline of Max’s face as he said, ‘You could come find me. I’d look after you;’ he thinks of waking up in Max’s bed for the first time with the covers draped over his clean body; he thinks of Max’s firm, warm hand on his torso and ‘let me see you.’
And he nearly says yes.
Or. Max and George start hooking up in Qatar 2024. It's hate sex until it's not.

Lando leaned in again—closer now, impossibly close—her focus sharp, tongue caught slightly between her teeth as she carefully traced the colour along the curve of Oscar’s mouth. The brush of the gloss was feather-light, but Lando’s knuckles brushed Oscar’s chin, steadying her.
“Don’t move,” she murmured.
Oscar didn’t. Couldn’t. She felt pinned there, heart beating too loud, mouth tingling under Lando’s touch.
When Lando pulled back, slowly, she looked almost dazed herself — like she’d forgotten where she was. She stepped back then — too fast, too casual, wiping her thumb unnecessarily across the edge of Oscar’s jaw.
“There,” she said softly, “Perfect.”

"Uh, hallo? I am, uh, Oscar. I am new, what is it, student? And you?"
Oscar. He practices the name in his head. It rolled off his tongue quite nicely, as much as he hates to admit it. Oscar.
"Hello. I'm Lando, McLaren driver," Lando said, quite clipped, because he had work to do and couldn't waste time on this right now.
"Lan-doo?" Oscar asked, eyebrows rising and Jesus Christ, is Oscar actually stupid, or just taking the piss?
"Your English is terrible, mate."
The words are leaving Lando's mouth before he even realises they've escaped up his throat. A mechanic stops mid screw turn. An engineer drops a pair of safety goggles like it's a bomb.
Oscar looks like he punched him. Lando kind of wants to punch himself.
"Ja, I, um, I know. I - what's the word - ah, yes, try. I try."
Lando swallows the sorry in his throat. It takes a second to go, the guilt heavy in his mouth. It tastes like acid and pain and the apology he probably should say but won't.
His ego is bigger than his empathy, it seems.

Martin ist nicht sicher, was er mit dem neuen Famulanten anfangen soll – Otto Marquardt, Sonnenschein bei Tag und heulendes Wrack bei Nacht. Otto dagegen scheint ziemlich schnell entschieden zu haben, dass sie Freunde sein sollten. Sollten sie wirklich, wirklich nicht. Martin hat sich geschworen, nie wieder jemanden in Gefahr zu bringen. In Zeiten wie der ihren kann jede Geste und jedes Wort gefährlich sein – und Otto ist nicht gut im Schweigen.
