James knows three things:
1.Regulus is Sirius’ little brother and Sirius loves him, regardless of whether he will admit it or not.
2.Regulus doesn’t give a wand’s shake about James, AND
3. James loves Regulus. Is actively IN LOVE with Regulus. And he can’t tell his bestest friend about it.
(What James doesn't know is that Regulus is an animagus who frequents the library with one Remus Lupin.)

Regulus steals the scroll back, rolls it, and wacks him on the head with it. “Shut it,” he says, so James drops the subject and eyes the scroll instead.
“What’s this, then? Are we conjuring the devil?”
Regulus kisses his teeth. “I have… rules.”
“No kidding,” he deadpans.

Usually, spending an hour (or three) in the astronomy tower soothes his racing thoughts and constantly active mind enough to fall asleep before the sunrise. However, while checking for Filch and Mrs. Norris on the Marauder's Map, he sees something-- or, rather, someone-- which instantly enraptured his attention.
Regulus Black.
Or, more importantly, Regulus Black's name tag disappearing completely off the Map.

"I don't know, do you think you can handle that responsibility James?" He flipped a page and Sirius hummed in agreement as he sat next to his boyfriend.
"And cat's are very adventurous so he probably won't be around a lot and when he is he might not even acknowledge you"
