Summary
Tommy watched the burning building from a distance.
The slow, drifting snow tried to blur his vision, but the flames rising from the structure refused to be hidden. Five minutes later, the fire had died down, and ambulances lined up in front of the charred remains. He watched as bodies were carried out one by one—burned beyond recognition. Police set up barricades, and then he heard it:“Tommy! Tommy! Please, let me through! Our friend lives in that building. TOMMY!”
Poor Tubbo screamed his name as if his lungs were being torn apart. Tommy only smiled.
“Done and done,” he murmured, turning his gaze elsewhere.
Wilbur had fallen to his knees, staring in shock at the burned-out building.
“I’m sorry,” he muttered, pulling his hat down over his head. “I didn’t think you’d go this far.”
Theseus turned toward him, but Tommy didn’t care.
“I kept my word, didn’t I? Now set me free… and go back to your family.”
