Five years ago, I was the lone survivor of a shipwreck that left me stranded on an island that shouldn't exist.
Before the wreck, I was a survivalist.
That helped.
Now, this island is mine. I know where the fresh water runs after a storm. I know which trees bite back if you cut them wrong, and I know which birds will scream if something dangerous moves through the jungle.
I've long since stopped expecting rescue.
