"Lan Furen?" a quiet voice asks, shaking with nerves. "I'm A-Ying. A-Zhan said I could come here sometimes, if I needed an a-niang."
A-Ying. Li Xiaoyan remembers. A-Zhan had talked all about his friend during their last visit. She had never seen him talk so animatedly about someone else before.
"A-Zhan's friend," she says and she watches A-Ying nod his head up and down as hope beings to flutter across his face. "What are you doing here A-Ying? Past your curfew and across the sect?"
He shifts from foot to foot again, biting his lip. Yet she startles again when she watches tears well up in his eyes as he looks at her with a pleading expression.
"A-Zhan won't wake up!"
Li Xiaoyan, Lan Furen, silently complies with her imprisonment. There's nothing she can do when it could risk what little time she's allowed to see A-Huan and A-Zhan. Yet when a strange little boy stumbles into her house late one night, introducing himself as A-Zhan's friend and pleading for help, Li Xiaoyan doesn't hesitate to stumble her way into a storm to save her children. What she can save is better than what's at risk to lose.

Summary
The first time around, Lan Wangji hadn’t been so subtle.
He had found the young orphan in Yiling, 159 years to the day he had lost his beloved. Carrying a half-ripped doll and dirt on his pants, the boy had tear streaks across his muddied face yet still gave a fearsome pout when the older cultivator kneeled before him.
“Wei Ying.” Lan Wangji breathed, reaching for the boy. He flinched, and the Lan elder’s hand stuttered. He closed his eyes, counted to five, then tried again. “Wei Ying. You’re back. You’re–you’re finally back.”
The boy, his silver eyes wide and concerned, took a stumbling step backwards.
“Wei-” Lan Wangji started, aghast, as the boy immediately turned tail and ran.
Of course, like any sensible adult, Lan Wangji chased him.
OR, Lan Wangji outlived his beloved and now finds Wei Ying again in every life. To varying degrees of success.

The scent of sandalwood lingered in the air. The sheets beneath him were far too soft, he wore robes he didn’t remember putting on, and worst of all—it was noon, and he was way too late for lectures.
Lan Qiren was definitely going to make him break his wrist copying the Three Thousand Rules thousands of times.
Or, Wei Wuxian gets turned back into his teenage self.

“Lan-er-gegeee?” he sweetly singsonged.
Lan Wangji, like he had been doing the entire afternoon, immediately looked at him upon being called. His eyebrows raised minimally as he took in Wei Wuxian’s appearance.
“How about this? Am I still nice to look at, Er-Gege? Do I look cute?” Wei Wuxian asked, sugary and nasally, as he twirled the end of one pigtail around his finger and batted his eyelashes.
The other didn’t miss a beat.
“Mn. Very cute,” Lan Wangji confirmed, not seeming flustered at all.
Wei Wuxian was starting to despair.
(Or: Lan Wangji discovers a method to find out if a flirtatious guy is being serious or just playing and decides to test it on Wei Wuxian. The method? Flirting back.)
