Summary
For Patroclus, barely a man, had a special role in the palace now. He was to please the god, stay in his good graces, and above all to become imprudent or desperate when the god inevitably moved on. He still fought and drilled with the soldiers, but his bath routine had more steps with creams and unguents and *exfoliators*, whatever those were. He was also allowed to set aside the plain clothes of his youth for flashier garments and to make liberal use of the palace’s collection of jewelry. He was also growing out his hair, saying that he wanted it to be thick at the narrowest part of his waist, something he said the god favored and he seemed to take special pride in.
Poseidon takes Patroclus as a lover and it is the talk of the palace. Achilles's feelings are complicated. He's not used to sharing but Patroclus is enjoying himself so much...
