Annabeth is the usual know-it-all, heartbroken over Luke's betrayal.
Will our son of the sea be able to make her smile again as they fight to save the world?
The fic begins in the year of the third book, the characters are fourteen years old, and I compressed the first two books into the first two chapters.

Balehrys sees her as a self-serving, deceitful, and manipulative worshipper of Shar—a bloody Sharran filled with her Lady’s darkness and secrets. Even with his tattered oaths and his dark urges, he knew she was dangerous. He ought to kill the likes of her.
Yet, he saves her life, and she joins him on a perilous journey for a cure. All despite their mutual mistrust and own prejudices against each other. And neither of them knew that both of them would eventually set each other free.

Summary
Commander Shepard is the sole survivor with a synthetic sole, among other augmentations due to the Akuze incident. She's suppressed her emotions and ignored persuasions to retire in her willingness to continue her tour of duty, relying on medication to help with her nightmares and the phantom pains that have persisted. People think it's determination. It's just a distraction.
Somewhere along the way she discovers an even better distraction, one that reminds her what it means to be human.
