Summary
“I’m still not worthy of them, John.” Arthur’s voice is less steady than he would like, and he finds himself fidgeting with the bedspread, plucking at it. “But I’m trying, and I owe Bella answers, at the very least. I owe her much more than that really, but… this is a start.”
John’s fingers brush his and Arthur barely dares to breathe. Bella said she’d been looking for you, right? So, I think it doesn’t matter if you find yourself worthy or not. John takes his hand and Arthur suddenly remembers how they’d fallen asleep last night - Bella holding John’s hand and Arthur had pressed their clasped hands against his chest. Bella clearly wants you regardless. I don’t think even you could doubt that after last night, Arthur.
Dawn approaches, dawn arrives, dawn fades, and Arthur slumbers on while John contemplates the events of the previous night.
Morning is here and there is much to discuss, explanations that are owed, questions to be answered, and suspicions to be confirmed.

“Oh, darling, let me take care of you,” Bella murmurs, cupping Arthur’s face in her hands, staring directly into their eyes. It sounds like a vow, like a promise.
John quite likes the way it sounds.
Bella has been searching for Arthur ever since he disappeared from Arkham. She never expected a phone call from her father would be her first solid lead in months. She arrives in New York just a little after the Butcher is apprehended, and catches up to Arthur (finally) some time later.
They have so many things to discuss, but... maybe it's okay to wait 'til morning.
