“Pretty popular these days?”
Dennis stops in his tracks, raising his eyebrows. “Sorry?”
“Guy from the bar, forty year old kitchen guy? Sounds like you’ve been keeping busy.”
Dennis opens and closes his mouth, then nods once.
“You heard that,” he looks around awkwardly, lowering his head.
“Yeah, uh. I forgot to silence my phone, won’t happen again.” He peers up at Robby, waiting for permission to scamper off into the chaos. What he hears coming out of Robby’s mouth next makes his eyebrows twitch.
“Were they any good?”“I…don’t know if that’s any of your business—“ Whitaker laughs a little as he says it, frantically eyeing the way Robby crosses his arms and raises his eyebrows at him.
“Yeah, you’re right. Maybe it isn’t.” Robby fought the part of him that wanted him to just fucking shut up. There’s a second or two of silence in which the chance to apologize was entirely his to take. He does not.
“Are-“ Dennis scoffs, “are you trying to ask me if they were better at fucking me than you?”Or
Dennis had every right to sleep with whoever he wanted while Robby was away on sabbatical. Robby knows he shouldn’t feel as angry as he does.
