After being left behind Alastor is the one to find a wounded Lucifer after the battle, taking the king into his care this was suppose to be a manipulation a way to get something out of the pathetic king.
He wasn't suppose to care.
The man was pathetic.
And yet, he was as broken as any sinner in hell perhaps more as the one's who were suppose to love him seem to only cause him pain

“You seem in rather dire straits, Sire,” he comments.
Lucifer huffs. “I’m fine, Bambi. Just… do me a favor and fuck off.”
Alastor chuckles. “Mmm, no, I don’t think I will.”
Lucifer finally looks up at him, irritated by the sinner’s stubbornness, and is surprised to find him covered in wounds and blood of his own. He blinks, suddenly concerned.
“What… what happened to you?”

Now, something needs to be explained: it wasn't uncommon from James to greeted his arch-enemy in front of a crowd; however, normally the greeting in question was pronounced in a mocking tone, followed by the infamous ‘Snivellus’ nickname, and a motley curse which would leave him in pain for the rest of the school day. Nothing like the 'good morning, Severus' he dropped that morning, punctuated with a kiss on the boy's sallow cheek.
To piss off Snivellus, James Potter decides to attack him in a way he never sees coming; he starts being friendly with him.
