Summary
"Hey," I say around the peg in my mouth.
I don't have a laundry bag, so I've improvised by using a storage bag I've cleared the supplies out of.
Rocky doesn't respond to me, he just kind of hovers. He does that sometimes, needing to be in the same room as me. I can't blame him. Honestly, I’m deeply glad he's the one who follows me around, so I don't need to start doing it myself.
"Grace never married?"
I accidentally bite down on the peg a bit too hard.
—
Or: Grace pokes at old, forgotten memories and gets his ducks in a row for his slow, painful death. Rocky makes a cultural blunder.

Summary
Softly, you admitted, "It reminds me of us, a little. Sometimes I wonder if our meeting was fate. If it was written in red, somewhere in the stars."
"Red," I repeated. "Like astrophage."
If our meeting was truly written in the red of astrophage, then it would mean that the stars started dying for us—that the entire galaxy mourned for them by singing a dirge, and it was loud enough to be heard in the vast silence of the Big Nothing.
Perhaps the universe was torn in two a long time ago and is trying to pull the broken halves back together. For everything comes from stardust, from planets and moons to humans and Eridians. For across trillions of miles' worth of space and billions of years' worth of time, we existed at just the right parameters to have met each other. Then, perhaps the universe made me to love you, and perhaps the universe made you to be loved.
Perhaps that is what you call fate.
Or: Grace confesses his love. Rocky struggles to do the same, though not for the reasons you might think.

Summary
He’s heard the stories. He knows his mother wouldn’t take another step on land if she could help it, not anymore. It took a long time for him to feel comfortable walking alone on the beach without anticipating torches and pitchforks at his first footfall, skin-thieves and scoundrels looking to steal him away.
Martin’s supposed to avoid humans, but he’s never been great at resisting temptation. In the aftermath of a dreadful storm, he finds himself and his sealskin coat trapped in the home of his mysterious human crush, Jon.
Navigating treacherous waters of injury, confusion, and a budding relationship, Martin feels adrift — more like Jon than he knows — yet, together, in the most unexpected of places, with the most unexpected of people, they find themselves.
