Summary
It was supposed to be a one night thing. A fling. For old time's sake, nothing more.
They'd agreed on it, with George leaving for Florida in only a couple days, there wouldn't be anything else between them. They'd go back to being nothing more than a chapter in each other's stories; the words faded and lost to time itself.
Until, that is, a call comes through that changes George's life forever, and he's left learning to navigate this new realm with one hand reaching back to the past, and the other stretching forward to everything he yearns for. To the future he's built, the world he has longingly watched unfold across an ocean, and the man who unwittingly holds his battered heart in his hands.

“Weren’t you the one complaining, Dream?” George’s expression is amused, even if he struggles to perch on Dream’s lap. “That I’m going to be stuck with Prince Sam’s advisors in the upcoming days and you’ll miss me?”
The carriage they’re in is fit for a King: adorned in gold from the crest outside to the little details embroidered in the upholstery, with fine glass panes lining the windows and comfortable seats to fit the King and his Knight as they travel to Prince Sam’s court. What the carriage lacks, however, is space.
Or: Dream's duties as George's Knight include keeping him company on the terribly long travel from their kingdom to Prince Sam's. They make the best of it.

It didn’t sit right with George that Dream would be punished because of something he had done. What would be the harm, anyway, if they let people believe it?
"If it will get you that much shit, then just don't tell them,” he said. “Things blow over eventually, right?"
Dream cocked his head to the side. "What do you mean, not tell them? They think we're together - this is not something I can push under the rug.”
George gestured aimlessly with his hand. It made perfect sense to him. "Why not? I mean, people do it all the time. No comment. Plausible deniability."Or: George goes partying, sleeps with a guy named Clay, and takes an adorable selfie with his cat that kinda breaks the internet. A few days later, Dream enters the picture.

Summary
After death threats evolve into actual attempts on his life, Dream is placed in witness protection. His strained relationship with George, the CIA agent assigned to his case, takes an interesting--and extremely embarrassing--turn when a break in leaves them locked in a safe room together for hours on end. Once Dream is transferred to a new location with even stricter guidelines to keep him safe, he's shocked to learn those new rules include him and George being within each other's sight literally 24/7.
