Scaramouche murmurs, and his mood is so mercurial, boiling over with anger one second, then cool with sarcasm, then friendly to the point of nauseating, shifting like desert dunes in a sandstorm. And now, his face is too close, cheek almost touching hers as he whispers into her ears, warm breath ghosting over the shell of her ear, "At this rate, I’m going to think you’d like a goodbye kiss."
