Summary
Will Byers has a big heart, his mom always said. He loves and he loves and he loves. He gives it away because it’s too much to be contained inside one small human organ, too full to bursting. It’s always been this way, his whole life, giving away love; to crying girls in sandboxes, to loud boys on swing sets, to uncaring fathers who yell and break things and force him to change, only to leave anyway. By the time he realizes the love isn’t infinite, it’s too late to fight his nature, and his heart bleeds out, year by year, until he’s drained and tired and empty.
He cries into his hand and wonders what will happen to him when he’s truly empty. Wonders if that day is rapidly approaching. Wonders if it’s already here.

Summary
“That’s not my favorite.”
“Oh.” Will blinks. “What is?”
Mike’s tongue darts out to wet his lower lip. “O negative.” Will feels a flush move across his entire body. His magic hums inside of him, excited. His fingers twitch against the carton. Maybe Will was wrong, maybe this is different than having a favorite kind of pizza. More personal. O negative sits differently in Will’s head than double black olives with extra cheese does. More intimate.
“Oh.” Will blinks again. And maybe O negative sits differently in Will’s head, because it also flows through his veins. He feels obligated to tell Mike. “I’m O negative.”
Mike’s pupils widen again. “I know.” His voice is low, gravelly.
Will’s breath hitches again. “You know?” He flinches when Mike’s fingers graze his, peeling the carton out of Will’s hand.
Mike takes a deep breath. “I can smell it.”

Summary
“Will Byers?”
Will glances around, as if there is another Will Byers in their vicinity. He manages a small smile. “Yeah, it’s- uh. It’s me.”
Mike rushes forward, and all he can think is holy shit, Will is alive, as he’s throwing his arms around the other boy and tugging him in for a crushing hug. It isn’t until Will is secure, nestled–maybe a bit stiffly–in his arms, that Mike starts crying.
“I thought you were dead,” Mike murmurs, muffled by Will’s jacket. He sniffles. “I thought- we- they told us you were dead.”
Or, Will was never found in S1, but survives in the Upside Down until 1987 due to his powers and connection with Vecna. Cue Mike, an ill-timed trip to the Upside Down, and a lot of feelings.

Summary
It was easy to assume Mike would present alpha: He was loud and brave and ready to fight the world.
But Will…Will had always been the opposite. Soft-spoken. Timid. Gentle. He quickly pushed the thought away as he chewed at his lip, his attention drifting back to Mike’s behavior over the past few weeks.
Mike had been acting a bit…off. He’d been sluggish and absent-minded, sometimes blinking through conversations like the mere attempt to focus took effort. He stayed physically close to their pack, closer than usual, and especially close to Will. He’d started slumping against tables or chair backs, shoulders rounding in on himself. When Will sat beside him, he would lean just slightly closer, seeking warmth in a way that made Will’s chest ache.
The snarky edge of Mike Wheeler had dulled into something quieter, and it worried him.
