I doubt you’ve had the chance to eat since this morning.” Qifrey raised an eyebrow at Olruggio, in one hand, a large plate with what seemed to be left overs and other snacks, and the other, a bottle carved out of honey tree wood, two metal cups stacked over the neck of the bottle. He smiled as Olruggio jumped back, startled out the witch out of his trance and back into the normal time flow, huffing as he somewhat laid back on the sofa.
Olruggio shuffled to make space on the sofa for his fellow witch, he patted at the space to the right of him, “ ‘Course, not like I’d say no.”'
Two witches, bound by fate, drink their sorrows away by the dying fire light, enshrouded by night. By the scant rays of dawn, mistakes and milestones are forged and rewritten.

The Bright Queen settles on a relatively peaceful punishment for Essek's treason. It's a better solution than he ever could have expected. It's fine. Really. He shouldn't be as miserable as he is.
As far as the rest of the Nein are concerned, a forced marriage is still an unacceptable resolution, particularly when it's plain to everyone Caleb and Essek are head-over-heels in love with each other.
