one day, tokyo is busy as it always is: there's a couple going on a road trip before one of them boards a plane back to argentina. the black jackals are beginning to trickle in from osaka, bickering and scowling. another couple has broken up and is trying to fall into being best friends the way they once fell in love. and as train after train pulls into tokyo station, someone's wondering if it's really worth it: confessing to a childhood best friend.

Summary
Reo hears from Nagi for the first time in two years in an interview.
It's a standard question, really; the host asks Nagi if he has a lover, and like the young, inexperienced football star that he is, Nagi blushes and shakes his head and stammers something naive; something romantic about an old crush, about lingering feelings from a long time ago. He does not mention a name, and he does not say Reo Mikage, but the whole world seems to think he did.

Reo stiffens. Seishiro thinks that’s the end of their little conversation, but Reo, always adept at extending their stolen moments, barges forward. “And if I disappoint you?”
Disappoint Seishiro? Reo probably hasn’t realized how difficult of a task that is. For him, especially.
“Don’t worry about that,” he says, his breath ruffling Reo’s hair. Reo shivers, almost imperceptibly, but Seishiro notices.
He’s not sure if he’s allowed to reach out. He does anyway.

There are Nagi and Reo's then, and their in-betweens, and the victory and losses that lie ahead in their lives. Sometimes it's with the other, sometimes not. They both found out that winning really is sweet, but tears are salty, too, and heartbreaks are incredibly bitter.
Those emotions, unfortunately, is everything in the taste of their youth.
