    The Valyrian Gods had watched the Dance of Dragons with disgust. Had watched the very House they had saved from the Doom tear itself apart over a needless succession crisis that had left the dragons dead, and House Targaryen weakened.
    If allowed to continue, the Song of Ice and Fire would fail, and the world of men destroyed.

    Meanwhile, Rhaenyra Targaryen, fresh from the loss of her gentle mother, wakes from a dream she cannot remember, terror driving her from the chambers and to those of King Viserys, the first of his name, and the very king who would plant the seeds that would grow into the Dance of the Dragons.
