Did she think that Madeline didn’t know all of this? Did she think that Madeline hadn’t spent the past week—past forever—hating herself for it?
“That’s in the past now,” Madeline said, and she really hoped that it didn’t show how upset she was right now because Helen needed her to be stable and that wasn’t possible if she burst into tears at the first bit of well deserved insults.
