"It's nothing, really, I just—"
The cover features a quaint illustration of two men standing in front of what appears to be a needlessly complex and completely nonsensical chemistry setup. They have their backs to the viewer. The taller man has his hand in the other's back pocket.
"Advanced Chemistry," Viktor mumbles, reading the title out as his fingertips dance lightly over the raised letters embossed into the flexible cover, "I didn't realize you read romance."
"I don't," Jayce argues, his tone and posture defensive, but as Viktor raises a skeptical brow in his partner's direction, he seems to realize the error in his words, "Well, not usually."
-or- Viktor catches Jayce reading a smutty romance novel, but there's more to this story than either of them realizes.

Summary
Throughout his years at the Academy, Viktor has gotten used to the metaphorical space that follows him wherever he goes. Between his cane, his background, and his ever present scowl, people are not typically jumping at the chance to invade his personal bubble. He would be lying if he claimed not to enjoy this to some degree, however, he rarely notices the distance after so long.
