Summary
Hamid hasn’t been feeling like himself since Svalbard.
He hadn’t been feeling like himself in Svalbard either, after the purple— whatever it had been, purple light made sentient and malevolent, had attacked them. That had felt different though, a sensation of weakening, of lessening that had dissipated as soon as Zolf had meditated and restored everyone’s spirit.
It's stress, it must be. But does stress explain why his skin feels itchy and tight, or why his shoulders and upper back ache nearly all the time now? Does it explain his sudden loss of appetite, or the feeling he’s been having since the day that the wild magic body swapping had been reversed back on the airship, the feeling that he should be bigger, that there should be more of him somehow?
If stress isn’t the explanation, then what is?

It’s not like Caleb hasn’t thought about it. He’s thought about it a little too much, if anything: what would happen in a situation in which the variables were only Essek, himself, some privacy, and their mutual willingness to explore each other. In that scenario, he wasn’t even asking for a bed.

Once they settle in Essek places a reassuring hand on their shoulder. "I want you to be in control of this. You say the word and I will stop. If you do not respond I will stop. I do not know what reactions may occur between our magics but I will admit, I am rather excited to find out."
