    Laurent deVere is living the life he always wanted for himself. He works for an exclusive lifestyle magazine in New York and gets to travel the whole world, always on the hunt for the next travel trends and big story.
    But since his next vacation is suddenly booked for two, he has the perfect idea to make the approaching summer unforgettable: He asks his best friend Damen if he wants to join him on the trip to Europe.

    After years of their close friendship, sharing a hotel room and being together for every second of the day won't make that much of a difference, right?

    Meanwhile, their friends Erasmus and Nikandros find their own little love story in between the big skyscrapers of New York City.

    220 B.C.E: Laurent fights in his father's army, but watches his brother die at the hands of Damianos, the gladiator son & heir of Akeilos. Instead of taking his place as Emperor, Laurent finds himself pitted against his uncle's Court, where the rules change every day & none of them are in his favor. In a bid to survive, Laurent becomes friends with the one boy he thinks will be able to survive his uncle (even if the age gap makes conversations repetitive at times).

    212 B.C.E.: A grieving Damianos charges into battle for the final time, after saying goodbye to the two people he'd thought were untouchable.

    2020: Nicaise is an undergraduate paleoanthropology student. He's in Italy with classmates, experts & his professors as they continue the decades-long search for the final resting place of the Lost King of Akeilos.The only thing more valuable than the Lost King's final resting place is an answer to the millennia-old mystery: where did the Forgotten Son of Vere go? While excavating, Nicaise falls through a ceiling into a burial tomb. But as Nicaise works and studies to discover more about these men, their lives and their deaths, he begins to realize a broken bone might be the least of his issues...

    Laurent is a ragdoll, pulled down into the dark at improbable speed. The lift it makes in his stomach is odd, like the giddy drop on a rollercoaster. A moment of elation, perhaps, before he dies.

    He breaks the surface.

    His gasping mouth now pulls in air, his feet firmly on the rock bottom of the spring and legs holding him up unshakably. Water streams from his head, down his body, as though a bucket had been dumped over his head. He reaches up to push his sopping hair from his eyes.

    “Naiad,” a voice says.

    Laurent stills. Psychological collapse should be allowed, by the universe, to be a solitary affair, especially when it happens in a state of complete undress. It’s unfair on a cosmic level that Laurent should be happened upon by a stranger in his current condition.

    On holiday with his brother in Ios, Laurent bathes in a hot spring. Unfortunately, he drowns. Even more unfortunately, when he surfaces somehow, he finds himself thrust back in time. Dropped into the middle of a mythologised ancient war for the Akielon throne, he is determined to get back to the modern day - even after ending up kidnapped (or perhaps rescued) by the rightful King, Damianos.
