Strands of hair as ebony as raven feathers brushed softly over porcelain skin in a perfect fringe, the most piercing blue eyes staring up at Dan with so much light in them he felt blinded.

“She just asked me out,” Phil says, with an almost crazed little giggle. “Me, can you believe it, it was so awkward. I can’t even remember what I said to turn her down. She probably thinks I’m a freak.”
Phil waits for Dan to laugh in surprise, or gasp, or make a stupid joke. Dan says nothing. The baffled smile falls from Phil’s face. Dan’s expression is doing something slow and foreign and complicated, like he’s trying to solve an impossible math problem, or else falling from a very high height.
(phil gets asked out by a semi-famous female singer. he can't remember the last time he's properly fought with dan.)
