The first time Charles kisses him, it wipes Edwin’s mind clean like nothing else ever has.
No case, not Hell, no amount of exhilaration or fear or devastation, none of it compares to the moment their lips meet, nothing even comes close.They have been talking about… something, Edwin cannot even remember the topic, and Charles gets a look on his eyes that he has never seen before, something far away and yet so aware, and one second, Edwin is talking and the next, there are lips pressed against his, soft and warm and tender.
Charles kisses him and it’s like Edwin is finding a new home in his lips, a new purpose in the hand Charles raises to cup his cheek, a new, yet familiar destiny in the little sigh he breathes into Edwin’s mouth; a kiss of life.
10 times Edwin thinks Charles is kissing him to figure out if he loves him, and one time he knows better.

"You know, it is the strangest thing, Charles," Edwin says. "I look at you, and I know who you are, and I can remember loving you. I remember being in love with you.”
“You remember," Charles repeats slowly. "But, what? The spell made you stop fancying me?” he asks, only half-jokingly. Perhaps it would make things easier, if Edwin weren’t in love with him.
But Edwin shakes his head. “Not exactly. I am not lacking any attachment to you in particular. I am simply- lacking.”
Or: A spell removes Edwin's love for Charles. Charles is not coping well.

“That about did it,” Edwin says, patting himself down and straightening his bowtie. “Now, if you’re ready, I suggest we find a mirror and-“
“Did you just cough up a flower?” Charles interrupts. Flower, perhaps, is a slight exaggeration. It’s more like a petal, red and incredibly out of place here on the shore.
Edwin clears his throat, but this time no petals follow. “Certainly it’s nothing to worry about.”
Or: Edwin is suffering from a weird curse, but for some reason, he's refusing Charles' help. Charles is trying his best to fix it anyway, but Edwin is being oddly secretive about the whole thing.
