Edwin hadn't explicitly said it, but the whole 'there's no time' routine and scary words like 'siphon' and 'fractures' don't leave a lot up to imagination.
Crystal can't imagine a world where a ghost getting all their energy used up means there's anything left afterward. Fuck, if Esther hadn't needed him as a long-term battery, isn't that what that god-awful machine would have done? Crystal's gonna find Edwin after this is all over and he's all healed, because she needs to smack the shit out of him.
She doesn't have many friends. She can't afford to lose any more.
OR
Edwin falls victim to a particularly nasty magical object, devouring his spectral energy from the inside out, starting with his memories. Luckily, he has a psychic and co-dependent best friend at his side.
