"You can do magic?"
“just sleight-of-hand. Kid stuff, no actual magic,” but Jon’s excitement over this development could not be tempered.
Jon left his card fan on the table, forgotten, and said, “can you do it again?”
Jay did, because how could he possibly say no. There was no showmanship this time, though. Even a child without any of Jon’s super perception could figure out how he did it, but Jon still had that look of wonder. Jay smiled a little and did it a third time, this one with the classic misdirect of pointing at something invisible flying by before snatching the card from the ether. Jon actually jumped.
And then he asked “where did you learn to do that?” and Jay was taken a decade and a continent away.

Summary
I sing of arms and a Superman
The Aeneid had a stranglehold on him, and he could have spent hours telling Jay or his mom about all the little intricacies in the language and the way fate and inevitability and history intertwined, the bits that made him sit back in his chair and just think (he could, though the nature of being Superman the way Jon had to meant that he usually only got to talk to them for half an hour tops before the world started ending again). When Jon let his mind wander, he considered which hero would be Aeneas. He didn’t want to sound vain, he didn’t want to seem arrogant, he didn’t want to be right, but he always came back to himself.

Jay answered his phone on the first ring.
“Do you want to do an activity with me?” Jon asked from the other end of the line.
“Do I want to do an activity with you?” Jay responded incredulously, because, yeah, it did kind of sound like something Jon would say before pulling out the twins’ multiplication triangles or their state facts playing cards.
“I’ve got this thing to go to today and you can come too if you want.”
“Are you going to tell me what this thing is or are you going to leave me in suspense?”
“I know how much you love suspense.”
“Where should I meet you?”

Summary
Jon froze in the middle of writing ursus arctos horribilis on the blackboard. “Are you sure you don’t want to learn more about bears? I, uh, I did a lot of bear based research last night.” He let the arm holding the chalk fall to his side as he muttered, “I probably know more about bears than I do about Superman at this point.”
The twins heard him, obviously, “That is a foolish thing to say. You were raised by Superman and carry the title yourself. You must know how to be Superman.” Otho accused.
“And so you must teach us!” Osul encouraged.
Jon tried to ignore the fact that he had a lot more experience with how not to be Superman as he turned to face the kids, brain going faster than a speeding bullet trying to figure out how best to handle this. By the time he was staring into their excited eyes, he had a plan. “I haven’t exactly prepared a super lesson, but maybe this is a question we can solve together. Follow me.”
