    Summary

"Patrick convinces him that it would be rude to just grab a plate of Ray’s home-cooked meal and run, which is honestly ridiculous since Ray wouldn’t be Ray if he had any concept of common courtesy, but whatever. The chicken is legitimately incredible, it turns out, but it still doesn’t quite make up for Ray’s periodic and unprompted “reassurances” throughout dinner. Apparently David’s face doesn’t look that bad, really, not compared to Bob’s when he swelled up from his tomato allergy, and they shouldn’t worry when it scares away customers who think the store is diseased, because they’ll come back eventually since there aren’t many shopping alternatives in the area."

Patrick takes care of David through his leaf-induced facial deformity. All he needs is some calamine, a soothing touch, and maybe to have word or two with Johnny Rose.

    Summary

A few things became clear as they were outlining Stevie’s role as Rosebud Motel Group’s Location Acquisition Manager. First, someone else would need to run the front desk. And, second, Stevie would need somewhere else to work.

That's when she found out Patrick had been holding out on them. Really, she shouldn’t have been surprised—if there were a Patrick Brewer drinking game, “oh, I guess I should have told you about this before now” would come right after “shows off his forearms” and “says David’s name.” It turns out Patrick has an enviable office set-up on the second floor above the store, and just never mentioned it to her before. After she threw up her hands and hurled an indignant “what!? at Patrick’s infuriatingly calm smirk (“I mean, the building is clearly two stories, you did notice there were windows up there, right?”), she informed him that he could make it up to her by agreeing to let RMG sublet part of the office. Because she’s a professional.

And by giving her a bottle of wine, because she’s human.

    Summary

"Patrick lays a strong hand on David’s shoulder and casually pivots to stand in front of him. “Sounds like we should get you that nap then, if that’s what you have your heart set on.” He holds David’s gaze for a moment, then leans in to speak softly into his ear.

“Or.” Patrick’s voice is controlled and slow, grip firm on his shoulder. “I could take you back to my room, bend you over my desk, and beat your ass until you forget what a baby sprinkle is.”

David bites his lip to control the shiver that flows through his body. His eyes fall closed and he nods rapidly as he chokes out what he hopes is a quiet enough “Yes, mmhmm, yes, that one.”

“Good choice,” Patrick smirks into his ear before stepping back to bid a casually warm farewell to some guests David doesn’t even try to acknowledge. He tries to work his face back into a politely impassive expression as he reaches to steady his hand against the counter. His knees are not going to buckle as he stands in Jocelyn’s goddamn kitchen."
