“Maybe it’s a guessing game,” suggested Alex, who had by now got the hang of rhetorical questions, but found it amusing to pretend that he hadn’t.
“The Taskmaster doesn’t play games,” she snapped. “He isn’t you.”

Summary
Greg stares at the dark-rimmed glasses sitting in the metal drawer and wonders, not for the first time, what the other him thinks he leaves behind before starting each day. Wedding ring? The keys to some house out on a country lane? A phone, the background image a few kids roughhousing with some mutt of a terrier while he and a faceless partner watch on behind them, sated and merry on that precious sort of ordinary happiness? Maybe other him thinks he doesn’t leave anything behind at all.
Greg puts his phone into the locker. It doesn’t matter what other him thinks might be in the drawer. Other him doesn’t even know it’s December. Other him might not even know what December is at all.
