Summary
While waiting for the results for the second test, Akito feels the adrenaline coursing through her veins, and she works up a cold sweat pacing back and forth from the door to the sink. Unable to wait for long, she decides to take the third test as well.
She can’t feel the mass in her body. She can only feel her heart pounding against the walls of her chest and the cold sweat drenching the collar of the shirt she stole from Shigure. In nothing but the shirt and her underwear, she feels so vulnerable and bare to the uncertainty of the very near future.
Her alarm rings. Akito jolts then rushes to the sink. She swipes the second test off the counter and freezes.
A plus sign faces up at her.
She feels her heart sink with the heavy weight of her grief. It slams into her gut and shakes her organs. They feel as though they’re distorting inside of her, and her head begins to pound. She can feel her mass again, more than ever before. She feels stuck. She feels trapped.
She falls to her knees and vomits into the toilet.Akito learns about unconditional love through motherhood.
