Summary
Dazai, for the first time ever, feels like celebrating his birthday with Chuuya.
But things don't really go as planned.

"What do you want, mackerel?"
"Am I not allowed to check in on my doggy?" Dazai asks as if affronted, with a hand to the chest.
"Shut up and get to the point. Do we have a mission or something?"
"No," Dazai says, and then sort of trails off and goes quiet, blank. It's not something he is very prone to. His hands are sweaty and he doesn't know why. His arm jumps a little at his side.
"Then what? If you're not gonna talk, I'm gonna -- "
"Does Chuuya know it's my birthday today?"

Summary
Chuuya knows and hates that Dazai's mind is his own worst enemy at times. Really, his husband deserves so much better. So when he one day returns home to Dazai having one of his worse mental health days, going as far as giving Chuuya a notebook he wrote while fueled by his insecurity, he makes sure to let him know just how much he cares about and loves him.
Disgustingly sappy shit ensues.

"It’s always been you, Chuuya.”
The room fell silent, the weight of Dazai’s confession hanging in the air. Chuuya’s mind was awash with conflicting thoughts and emotions, struggling to reconcile the image of Dazai he had always known with the person sitting before him now.
Chuuya looked at Dazai, his expression conflicted but his voice steady. “I don’t feel the same,” Chuuya’s voice trembled slightly as he uttered the words, “I hate you.”

Chuuya looked down at his hands, avoiding Dazai’s eyes as he spoke. “I was hoping that maybe if we actually went through with dating, that you’d eventually see me for who I really am, not this version you’ve built up over the years. And that maybe... you’d fall out of love on your own.”Dazai met Chuuya’s eyes, his tone surprisingly calm. "Let’s test it. Let’s see if you’re right.”
