“I’m meeting someone who works here,” the guy says. There’s something shifty and irritable about him. Andrew taps an origami frog so that it jumps across the counter in the guy’s direction, just to see if the guy will spook. He doesn’t.
“I work here,” Andrew says. He sits back in his chair, crossing his arms in a way that makes his T-shirt strain across his biceps. The combination is not necessarily suggestive — that’s not Andrew’s style. If this handsome ragamuffin takes it as an opportunity to get blown in the back room, that’s his own business.

It’s a 31 hour drive from Phoenix to Palmetto - at least the route they’ll take is - and though Neil knows he can drive that far straight through, fueled by gas station coffee and desperation, he doesn’t have to, now.
They could fly - in fact, Kevin had suggested they fly, when Coach first called. “You want me to come with you?” Neil had asked, slightly surprised. “Obviously,” Kevin had said, like it was a stupid question.
Which didn’t really mean what Neil wanted it to mean, but it’s fine. Neil knows, has known since the day they walked out of the Nest with their lives and their freedom, that everything else they get in life is cake.
Wanting more is just greedy.

Something about Neil’s tone is uniquely dangerous in a way that Andrew doesn’t recognize. In his mind’s eye, he sees a sharp smile and a sharper blade. “But you’ll have to deal with some distractions.”
Andrew finds it in himself to scoff, even with heat pooling between his legs. “Distractions?”
Neil pulls back. In the dim light of the bedside lamp, his eyes don’t even look blue anymore. “Take off your shirt.”
