She imagined Richard’s set lips and furrowed brow outside the window, his disapproving eyes watching her every move, watching her leave. She imagined him shrinking with the skyline until he became a tiny speck; a piece of dust she could blow away.

    York, Darlington, Newcastle, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Edinburgh... It was really happening, wasn't it? Therese fished frantically for the train ticket in her pocket. Edinburgh, single, one-way. There was no return from this.
