Caitlyn's not her girlfriend. Nor anyone’s girlfriend, as far as Vi knows. Not that it’s Vi’s business, anyway.
She’s only sitting there at every match because of her stupid essay about the social aspects of football and how being part of a team in a sport helps to develop better communication skills and grows the ability to interact with people.
Or whatever. Vi wasn’t really paying that much attention when Caitlyn explained it to her. She has better things to focus on, rather than some pretty girl and her stupidly interesting essay.
Vi only agrees to play football in the schoolyard because Mylo wants to impress the girls. The blue-haired girl that sits down at the stands during practice to take notes for her literature essay is definitely not the reason she keeps going along with it.

She moves closer, lips parted, and there’s a moment of warm, shared breaths before they’re kissing. Gently, fully, less frantic than their collision in that prison cell but hungrier than the chaste, careful exchanges they have shared up to now. Vi loosens her fingers from Caitlyn’s so she can use both hands to cup Caitlyn’s face, pressing lingering, damp kisses to her mouth. Caitlyn feels it like warm water from her scalp to her toes, making her aware of Vi’s saliva on her bottom lip and the oil on the surface of her skin.
“You deserve to be happy, Violet.” Caitlyn whispers into the heated air between them as they part. Vi responds by pressing her mouth to the underside of Caitlyn’s jaw.

Everything’s so fucked up. I’ve come back to a world I wish I didn’t recognise, and everything’s gone. Everything and everyone. And then you, you appeared out of nowhere, like there’s still some good left in this shitty, uncaring world, and I just—please. Just a sip. For me?”
Caitlyn’s eyes focus on the still water within the glass. Vi presses the chipped rim to Caitlyn’s mouth and tilts it back, water touching her lips, and Caitlyn finally moves.
Lifting a hand, she knocks the glass across the room. It shatters into three large pieces and a thousand tiny shards.
Vi lifts her hands. She wants to curl them into fists, to beat the ground, to twist them in her hair and scream; she wants to cradle Caitlyn’s face, letting her feel the gentle warmth on the dirt covering her skin, and the skin beneath the dirt.
