A gentle hand cradled his cheek. “Tommy,” a broken voice whispered, and Tommy looked up slightly to see Emperor Philza. He looked like a true angel, then, with his wings shielding Tommy from the bloodshed like a huge, dark halo. “Tommy, what happened?”
“They wanted inf’rmation,” Tommy said, voice slurred. “‘Bout battle pl’ns ‘n shit.”
“Why didn’t you tell them?” Philza asked breathlessly, sounding absolutely astonished, and heartbroken, and a million different terrible things. Tommy couldn’t even begin to comprehend why the Emperor felt this way about him being injured.

Or; It takes being literally kidnapped for Tommy to realize that Emperor Philza and General Technoblade see him as more than just their messenger.

Summary
If his body ached, he couldn’t feel it. He was numb, just doing whatever Techno told him to do, deep into the night. He didn’t question if the training was unhealthy or if Techno’s methods on completing a jump “perfectly” were healthy either.
Because that’s how it was supposed to be. He wasn’t supposed to ask, he was supposed to skate.
