“Look,” Zed cajoled softly, until the Scout’s big, wet eyes settled on the tools held openly in each of Zed’s rough hands. “Aw, you ought to be thankin’ me. I’m givin’ you the luxury of a choice, here. You just won me over with them baby blues… I can’t rightly help it.” He snickered, filthy with superiority and cruelty, at Jeremy’s continued confusion.
He moved the tools closer to Jeremy, and watched him shy away.
“Choose, boy.”
