After Max gets into a car crash and winds up in the hospital, she freaks out. She had crashed Steve's car. What if Steve freaked out on her like Billy would have?

Dread and nausea immediately filled her. This wasn’t her car. It was Steve’s. Guilt and panic churned so quickly in her stomach that she immediately turned and threw up. The pounding in her head worsened, but she couldn’t help the rising fear at the situation.Steve had saved up for this car for so long after the Upside Down had swallowed his old one. He loved this car, and he was going to be so pissed. For a second, Max wished she had died in the crash so that she wouldn’t have to see his reaction. Her breathing ticked up, and she tugged at her hair in panic, wincing at the pain that shot through her head again.
She couldn’t breathe. This was it. Steve would never trust her again, would never want to see her again. A sob built up in her throat at the thought, and tears fell from her eyes. She was going to lose Steve. Max collapsed to the ground, trying in vain not to hyperventilate.

Summary
Dustin held his breath desperately, jaw quivering as Steve looked back at him, eyes taut with pain. He gave a sort of sad smile, and Dustin’s heart stopped.

He knew what that meant, he had seen that look before, on Eddie before he had died. Dustin’s breath came faster as he sobbed, vision clouding with tears.
The demogorgon swiped at Steve again, shredding Steve’s chest. But Steve had managed to get a final hit on it with his bat, killing the final one, protecting Dustin from being the next victim.
Dustin’s world froze as he numbly watched Steve’s body fall, hitting the ground with a dull thud. There was silence for a moment, then an animalistic scream tore out of Dustin’s throat as he pushed himself as fast as he could towards Steve.

This is part two to one of my other fics which is from Steve's perspective. Essentially, what if Vecna had targeted Dustin instead of Max? This is from Dustin's perspective, because I thought it would be fun to write something from his perspective.
