Summary
Viktor is a man of routine; he wakes up, he feeds his parrot, he works, he tries to eat (with varying degrees of success), then he sleeps. Rinse and repeat. Routine is all he has after his only family passes away.
But this carefully constructed bubble shatters when he's confronted by his new neighbors; Jayce and Jinx. This dynamic duo brings chaos and distraction.
Jayce Tallis is the sort of man Viktor hates. He's upbeat, privileged, and woefully unequipped to deal with a cranky man like Viktor. When the two finally meet Viktor's world is turned upside down. He's assaulted by the man's kindness and fascinated by the deep well of sadness Jayce hides behind each bright smile.
The two must contend with re-emerging feelings of grief, guilt, and new feelings of hope. This is a story of progress and relapse, of loves old and new, of found family, and the grit it takes to rebuild.

Now Rook fixes him with a skeptical look. Surely, the man realizes how handsome he is. "Really? The way I was moaning for you this morning didn't give you any hints?"
Emmrich makes smugness look humble when he lifts his chin slightly. His pride really manifests when his sexual prowess is brought up. "The lovely sounds you make could have just as easily been a by-product of my technique."
Oh he's fishing for compliments now.
"Tsk, Emmrich, be reasonable. You're hot. You're a hot professor and we both know it."
The smile lines on his face crease. There's lines all over his face, wrinkles from a life lived. Some lines are gentle, barely noticeable creases of skin. Others are deeper, signs of an emotion showcased on a loop. Rook wants to trace each line with his tongue, kiss every wrinkle, and stun the man into speechlessness. He looks moved by the compliment, and manages to make setting a damn bowl of fruit down look regal. Everything he does seems refined.
