    Be thankful for what you have, that had always been Wei Wuxian's motto. And he was thankful! He was thankful the Jiangs saved him from a life in a brothel. He was thankful they taught and raised him alongside Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli.

    But he'd never been able to stop wondering 'what if'. What if Jiang Fengmian had saved him a day earlier? What if he'd never smiled at the pretty brothel owner? What if he'd presented as an omega? What if he didn't have to live the life of a eunuch? He tries so hard not to wonder, to be thankful. But as he's sent to watch over Jiang Yanli as she's presented to the Emperor as a potential mate, his reality is a bitter pill to swallow.

    Wei Wuxian had always seen the Unity Ceremony as a place to goof off and pull pranks on the Jin. He didn't have any reason to believe this year would be any different, until Madam Yu sat him and Jiang Cheng down and explained exactly what the cuffs on their wrist meant. Wei Wuxian wished he could laugh it off like Jiang Cheng, but instead he only had a sinking feeling.
    That he was omega.
    And that the future he was so certain of would be gone because of it.

    Wei Wuxian's life had derailed the moment he presented as an omega. He felt like the same person, despite his new biological reactions, yet everyone acted like his whole life should change. How could a poor omega like him become an engineer? Even if his poor little brain could figure out the math, who would want to hire him? Which made his promotion to the Director of Engineering that more rewarding. It was proof that his hard work and planning was finally coming together. He could pratically taste his future on the horizon.

    There was nothing that could derail his plans....except maybe running into the alpha that had started it all.
