Summary
The world they knew, imperfect though it was, falls in around them when their kingdom's leadership changes hands. Now everything they are is illegal. What do they do with what little privilege they have left, before they lose everything? And how much exists beyond what they thought they knew?
This is the draft of a work in progress that will be submitted for commercial publication on completion; adjustments may be made in the process to already published chapters here as tweaks are made to the overall story. Right now it's paused at the present chapter uploads while I hash out the remainder of the book in terms of pacing, but currently have additional chapters and am open to sharing them by request with the caveat that they may or may not make it into the finished work as written.

And then Jon is snarling into his face, demanding what are you hiding with a strange, bright-eyed intensity Martin has never seen from him before, and Martin thinks god, maybe he should just come clean about his CV, Jon thinking he's a fraud can't be any worse than Jon thinking he's a murderer-
Martin opens his mouth to speak. To his absolute horror, what actually comes out is: "I used to pretend to cry because I liked how nice you were to me when you thought I was upset!"
